Benefits:
  • Improves balance
  • Develops body awareness
  • Increases shoulders, hip and knee mobility
  • Strengthens feet, ankles, quads, glutes, core and shoulders
  • Improves focus
Cues:
  • Start in mountain pose
  • Place your palms together at your sternum
  • Feel strongly into the four corners of the right foot
  • Put a slight bend in your knee engaging the quads and glutes
  • On an exhale begin to bring your left foot off of the ground 
  • Fold forward at your hips
  • Extend your arms straight forward in line with the shoulder joint

Common Errors:
  • Positioning of the standing knee
  • Grounding of the standing foot
  • Are not neutral
  • The arms are lower than the shoulders
Modifications:
  • To lessen the intensity of the pose you can:
    • Keep your hands at your chest

Cautions:
  • Pain in the:
    • Feet
    • Ankles
    • Hip
    • Back
    • Shoulders
Alternate Poses:

  • Extended Mountain
