lateral neck stretch


Benefits:
  • Lengthening through the neck
  • Improves posture
  • Relieves stress

​Cues:
  • Start with your upper body into mountain pose (this pose can be done standing, sitting or keeling)
  • On an inhale lengthen through the spine from the tailbone to the crown of the head
  • On an exhale drop your right ear towards your right shoulder feeling length come through the left side of the neck and the traps on the left side

Common Errors:
  • The neck is not properly lengthened
  • The head is been pulled forcefully towards the shoulder
  • The shoulders are uneven
Modifications:
  • Bring your arms behind your back interlacing your fingers at the same time as dropping your right ear towards your right shoulder
  • You can place your right hand on the left side of your head just above your temple and gently encourage the right ear to come towards the right shoulder

Cautions:
  • Neck pain
  • Light headedness
